# Pa-Kua Archery and Edged Weapons
Pa-Kua Cambridge is an international martial studies school teaching a distinctive system rooted in ancient Chinese knowledge and multiple martial art styles. Established in 1976, the organisation operates from two Cambridge locations, serving children, teenagers and adults seeking practical self-defence skills, traditional weapons training and movement disciplines.
The school offers five distinct modalities. Children aged 5-12 learn fundamental martial art and body control in a supportive environment. Teenagers and adults can pursue non-competitive martial art and self-defence classes, or explore Tai Chi Cosmodynamics—a practice combining martial movements with body conditioning and joint pain relief. The edged weapons programme trains students in traditional knife, sabre, sword and spear techniques, whilst the Chinese archery classes teach historical recurve bow techniques using authentic bamboo arrows and thumb draw methods.
What distinguishes Pa-Kua is its emphasis on inclusive, family-oriented instruction with personalised attention rather than competitive achievement. The curriculum emphasises individual evolution and acceptance of all practitioners, delivered by experienced instructors trained in traditional Pa-Kua methodology. Their dual focus on historical Chinese martial traditions alongside accessible modern self-defence instruction appeals to both cultural enthusiasts and those prioritising practical personal security.
Classes operate on fixed weekly schedules with archery sessions held monthly on first and third Saturdays. Free trial classes enable prospective students to experience the teaching philosophy before committing to membership.
