# AVALON ARCHERY CLUB

Avalon Archery Club is a welcoming community sports organisation based in Street, Somerset, dedicated to teaching and promoting archery to people of all abilities aged nine and upwards. Operating since 2013, the club taps into the region's rich archery heritage, tracing its connection back to the Neolithic period when the Meare Heath Bow was crafted around 2700BC.

The club serves both complete beginners and experienced archers, operating from dual facilities at Strode College—an indoor range accommodating shots up to 18 metres and an outdoor field capable of hosting competitions up to 100 metres. What distinguishes Avalon is their commitment to safety and structured progression. All new members must complete a mandatory beginners' course led by qualified coaches (one level 1 and one level 2), ensuring proper technique and insurance compliance. The club welcomes Archery GB members and offers flexibility for those returning after extended breaks, available assessments notwithstanding.

Their calendar includes both regular shooting sessions and special events like clout shoots, demonstrating an active competitive spirit whilst maintaining accessibility for casual participants. The club actively fosters community engagement by inviting neighbouring clubs to events and maintaining registered status with Archery GB. Meeting year-round on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings, Avalon Archery Club provides structured coaching, inclusive memberships, and a genuine sense of fellowship centred on this ancient sport.
